The Absolute Beauty of Rock
Written by Ric Chetter on November 6, 2015
At Radio Memphis, we have always wanted to shine a light on the idea of “The Art” being exposed. In all of us, somewhere inside lies the desire to create. If it is in you, it has to come out. This comes in many forms. From the weekend warriors to the semi-pros to those who are faced with seemingly insurmountable odds just to be heard.
Let us introduce you to a punk band from Finland. They are called Pertti Kurikan Nimipaivat.
We have often said the secret to the entertainment business has been to give the audience something they have neither seen nor heard before. These guys deliver.
What do they have?
Down Syndrome. The entire band.
All four members of this band have Down Syndrome and not only do they rock, they rock with a purpose. They came together to raise awareness to the people of Finland the realities of Down Syndrome and to prove the abilities of those who live their lives with this condition. Now, they are getting global attention. They let nothing stand in their way as they do what they love. THAT is a beautiful thing.
Punk music has always been about society, politics, the environment, change, attitude and so much more. These guys not only embrace these things, they shove it all right in your face. Here comes this band with a singular purpose of raising awareness of Down Syndrome to one country and are now getting global attention.
All heart. All art. All love and all of it for a purpose. What is more rock and roll than this?
So we ask, what drives you?
Check out their WEBSITE for more.
The best thing to say about this band comes from them. “We play punk and have a fucking good time.”
