Jim Eikner

Those of you in Memphis who have spent any time watching WKNO-TV (PBS) have surely encountered the voice and face of Jim Eikner. Mr. Eikner passed away today after a brief illness at the age of 82.

Jim Eikner was the perfect representative of Memphis Public Broadcasting. He was an artist himself. A fan of the stage, he often acted in several productions in the city. A true voice of the arts and artists in Memphis.

WKNO-TV kept a strong bond with the arts community in Memphis because of Eikner’s work on the air and on the stage.

Any one who has been such a supporter of all Memphis and Midsouth artists had a friend in Mr. Eikner. It can also be said that artists in Memphis, whether actor, musician and/or painter and sculptor, no matter the art, you had a friend in Jim.

Everyone who met Jim Eikner all have the same thing to say, “Class act”.

A class act, indeed.

As of this writing, no funeral arrangements have been made.

The family of Radio Memphis sends it’s regards to the Eikner family and all of those at WKNO for their loss.
